For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
It’s been a very long time since my last post. Lots of things have happened. My mom and my uncle passed away, I’ve battled some health issues, our sweet dog Lou died, and we adopted Sam, another handsome border collie. But life as always is full of blessings and gifts.
One of those gifts is that recently I re-discovered my love of paper crafting after a 10+ year break, and what a blessing it is!. Luckily I kept my Copic markers all these years, and they still work! I’m so enjoying all the new things in the rubber stamp world (as well as enjoying oldie but goodie techniques). In my absence clear cling stamps have become the norm. I have to say I thought I would always be a wood stamp person, but I love the clear stamps. They are so easy to use and store, and a great value as well.
I’m learning some new terminology (my favorite is “fussy cut” for cutting a stamped image very closely around the outline). The technique of running a black marker around the edges of the image is still being used. Clean and simple card designs are all the rage, and they’re so pretty. I think my favorite part is the advent of You Tube and all the amazing artists who share their creations and techniques with the world. Some day I want to do that, but for right now I’ll just share my cards and creations here. There are so many new techniques to try.
I wanted to start with this card I made using stamps from Paper Smooches. I love these images and the sentiments. The images are just darling and the way the sentiments are written is really fun. One of the things I’m doing is working on making several very different cards using the same images.
I started with this set called “Hooties” – it’s all about owls! I saw on the Paper Smooches Website that they are having a layering challenge, so thought I would send in a couple of cards. Forgive my photography – currently I only have a phone as a camera (someone I care about had a great need for camera for a little while so I loaned it out – and the best part is that they are going to teach me how to take decent pictures when they return from their trip!).
For this first card I layered both paper and stamps. I made a mortise mask for the owl’s body, eyes and beak (reverse mask), so I could stamp him with a little flower. I was think of the 1960’s because of the cool paisley branch. I also masked off the entire owl and branch and used some distress inks to create a green and blue background. The layered papers on the side were cut with a Simon Says Stamp die cut.
And here he is with his brother! For this one I stamped on white card stock and die cut with Wonky Stitched Squares, then layered onto some bright melon colored card stock and some background paper. Also colored with Copic markers.
For both cards I added accents with Wink of Stella and Ranger Glossy accents.
